Reliable Import Solutions into Senegal & West Africa

Bringing the World to West Africa

World Trans & Logistics offers end-to-end import services for businesses bringing goods into Senegal and the broader West African market. Whether you are importing machinery, consumer electronics, construction materials, vehicles, food products, or industrial supplies, our team manages every aspect of the import chain from the supplier's door to your warehouse.

Importing into Senegal involves navigating a complex regulatory environment including GAINDE customs clearance systems, pre-shipment inspection requirements, COSEC (Conseil Senegalais des Chargeurs) declarations, and compliance with standards set by the Association Senegalaise de Normalisation (ASN). Our licensed customs brokers have decades of experience clearing goods through the Port of Dakar and Blaise Diagne International Airport.

We also manage transit cargo destined for landlocked countries in the region, including Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, handling the additional documentation, bond guarantees, and corridor management required for goods passing through Senegalese territory en route to their final destination.

Import Process from Start to Finish

A systematic approach that minimizes delays and ensures full regulatory compliance.

1. Pre-Shipment Planning

Before your goods are even shipped, we review the product classification (HS codes), calculate estimated duties and taxes, verify import permit requirements, and advise on the most cost-effective shipping method. Early planning prevents costly surprises at the border and ensures you budget accurately for landed costs.

2. Supplier Coordination

We liaise with your overseas suppliers to ensure shipping documents are prepared correctly before departure. This includes verifying commercial invoices match the purchase order, confirming packing lists are accurate, ensuring certificates of origin are properly issued, and coordinating container loading and booking with the nominated carrier.

3. Shipment Tracking

From the moment your cargo departs the origin port or airport, we monitor its progress in real time. Our tracking systems provide visibility on vessel positions, estimated arrival times, transshipment status, and any potential delays. We keep you informed with regular updates so you can plan your receiving operations accordingly.

4. Customs Clearance

Our experienced customs brokers prepare and file all import declarations through the GAINDE system. We handle duty and tax calculations, manage pre-shipment inspection (BSC/BESC) certificates, coordinate with scanning and inspection authorities, and resolve any queries or holds from customs officials efficiently to minimize demurrage and storage charges.

5. Duty & Tax Payment

We manage the calculation and payment of all applicable duties, taxes, and fees including customs duties, VAT (TVA), statistical fees, COSEC charges, and any product-specific levies. Our team optimizes duty payments by leveraging applicable trade agreements, temporary admission regimes, and duty exemption programs where your business qualifies.

6. Last-Mile Delivery

Once your goods are released from customs, we manage port drayage, container devanning, warehousing if needed, and final delivery to your premises anywhere in Senegal or the region. Our fleet and transport partners ensure safe, timely delivery with proper handling equipment for heavy, oversized, or sensitive cargo.

Import Compliance & Regulations

Navigating Senegal's import regulations requires specialized knowledge. Here is what you need to know.

Pre-Shipment Inspection

Most imports into Senegal require a Bordereau de Suivi des Cargaisons (BSC/BESC) issued by COSEC. This cargo tracking document must be obtained before shipment and presented during customs clearance. WTL handles the entire BSC application process on your behalf to prevent arrival delays.

WAEMU Common External Tariff

Senegal applies the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU/UEMOA) Common External Tariff with four duty bands: 0%, 5%, 10%, and 20% depending on product category. Additional levies include a 1% statistical fee, 1% community solidarity levy, and 0.5% ECOWAS levy. We ensure accurate classification to avoid overpayment.

Product Standards & Permits

Certain products require specific import permits or compliance certificates. Food products need sanitary clearance, pharmaceuticals require Ministry of Health authorization, electronics must meet safety standards, and vehicles are subject to age restrictions. WTL guides you through every requirement before you ship.

Duty Exemptions & Incentives

Senegal offers various duty exemption programs for investment projects (Code des Investissements), mining operations, diplomatic imports, NGO equipment, and goods destined for special economic zones. Our customs team identifies and applies for all applicable exemptions to reduce your import costs legally.
